High School Prep Course

Get prepared at Evakona...join a New Zealand High School!

Evakona's high school preparation course is for speakers of other languages who wish to improve their English in order to study successfully and confidently in a NZ High School.

Evakona is accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) to teach and assess the following subjects:

  • English - level 1 - 2
  • Mathematics - level 1
  • Accounting - level 1
  • Economics - level
  • History - level 1
  • Drama - level 1
  • Geography - level 1
  • Science - level 1
  • Generic Computing - level 1
  • Japanese - level 1-3
  • ESOL - level 1-4
Students will be taught 7 or 8 subjects from the above list during their first year of the high school preparation course at Evakona.
 
THE FIRST YEAR

Duration: 7 to 12 months
Enrolment period: Continuous enrolment between February and July. The course ends at the end of January.
Schedule:

  • 23 hours of lessons per week
  • Mornings: Study English
  • Afternoons: Study the different high school subjects (see list above) at Evakona.

Result: The students will obtain NZ National High school credits (NQF/NCEA) to carry over to a New Zealand high school.

THE SECOND YEAR
  • NZ High School Y12 (February - December)
  • The students study at a NZ High School
  • Evakona will support their school studies, homework and assignments with Catch-up Lessons, which are one-on-one private lessons after school
  • Schedule: (1 hour lesson, 1 to 4 lessons per week).
   
THE THIRD YEAR
  • NZ High School Y13 (February - December)
  • The students study at a NZ High School
  • Evakona will support their school studies, homework and assignments with Catch-up Lessons, which are one-on-one private lessons after school
  • Schedule: (1 hour lesson, 1 to 4 lessons per week).

Health & Travel Insurance, Immigration and the Code of Practice


CODE: Evakona education has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at: http://www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international.

IMMIGRATION: Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/.

ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES: Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at: http://www.moh.govt.nz/.

ACCIDENT INSURANCE: The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs.
